Tag #19 "Able" - page 130
A. Hester is still working with the poor and the elderly and people still make fun of her. Now some people are starting to interpret the "A" on her dress as able not adultery.
B.I think this is there true side of Hester, she is really sorry for her sin and I think she should be forgiven by the town.

Tag #20 Cillingworth's transformation- page 132
A. Hester is worried about Dimmesdale. She runs into Chilingsworth and asks him if she can warn him who he really is and he tells her do what you want too.
B.I think this shows us that Hester really likes Dimmesdale and doesn’t want anything bad happen to him. But I am really surprised what Chilingsworth said to her because this was his whole motive in the story-to get revenge.

Tag #21 seaweed- page 139
A. Hester and Pearl are walking down the beach and Pearl stops and makes an A out of seaweed and asks her mother what it means. And she refuses to answer.
B. I think this is the actions of the law of nature coming out of Pearl. She knows that the A is significant in her mother’s life but doesn’t know what it means so she asked her. I think this really hurt her mother and really made her think about her sin that she committed.

Tag #22 hand over his heart- page 139
A. Pearl also wants to know why Dimmesdale keeps his hand over his heart and Hester will not tell her because of the situation.
B.I think this is the law of nature coming out of Pearl again because she know she hurts her mother but still asks her the questions.

tage #19 - "able" page 130

A. Ever since that night on the Scaffolds Hesters heart has been heavy for Dimsdale she wants to find a way out for him she has to be there for him and be supportive. She seems to think afteer all of these years having the "A" on her chest she is a stronger person.

B. I admire Hester for wanting to stick up for Dimsdale. If someone left me out in the cold like that i probably never want to speak to them agian. it takes a big person to have that kind of courage in my opinion.

tag #20 - Cillingworth's transformation page 132

A. in this Chapter hester talks about how much Roger has changed as a person, he used to be sweet and kind, and now he ois just critical of everything around him and she doesnt like that. also, Chillingworth and hester cross paths on the beach.

B. to be quite honest I found this chapter very hard to follow all i could decifer was the things above.

tag #21 - seaweed- page 139

A. In this chapter Hester finds Pearl on the beach playing with some sea weed when she realises her daughter had made an "A" on her own chest. Pearl asks her mother what the "A" represnts and her mother will not tell her.

B. Finally!! She asks her mother what the "A" means? if this little girl is so brilliant you would have thought she would have realised it by now.

tag #22 - hand over his heart page 139

A. This Chapter Really freaked me out. Hester thinks Pearl knows what the a means Hester asks why do i wear this letter A, pearl replies the same reason the pastor keeps his hand on his heart. Yet Hester Chooses not to tell her the real reason.

B. I believe that was a smart move not to tell her right away and to wait until pearl is a little older. Hester is a good mother to pearl think and just wants to protect her.

Chapter 13

Tag 19 - Able-

A.) Author/Facts

1. This part of the novel takes place about four years or so after the last time we saw Hester. At this point, she is still trying to keep Chillingsworth identiy from Dimmesdale, and she is also concerned with Pearl, as she should be.

B.) Reader/Response

1. I think that this means that she is "capABLE". She isn't being put down by the townspeople anymore, she is actually doing stuff despite what they think. I hink this is important because she is proving to them, that just because you mess up once, doesnt mean you are ruined for good.

Chapter 14

Tag 20- Chillingworths transfomation

A.) Author/Facts

1. In this part, we see a new side of Hester. She is desperate to get Chillingsworth to reveal himself to Dimmesdale. She wants this because she knows that Chillingsworth knows everything, and that he is just trying to put them both through torture as a form of punishment for what they did together.

B.) Reader/Response

1. In this section of the book I think we see the final change in Chillingsworth. His worst fears have been confirmed and his whole life has been turned around. He is now no longer controlled by passion and rationality, but is irrational, and full of rage, which is deadly to a person.

Chapter 15

Tag 21- Seaweed

A.) Author/Facts

1. In this part of the book, its on a beach where Pearl is around with her mother. Pearl begins playing around on the beach and finally stumbles upon some seaweed. Pearl then usues the seaweed and makes an "A" and ask her mother what it means, Hester doesn't provide and anser.

B.) Reader/Response

1. I think that by playing with the seaweed Pearl is learning more about the incident. For example, seaweed is not the cleanest thing to be playing with, and she makes an "A" which clearly stands for adultery which is also not clean.

Chapter 15

Tag 22 -"hand over his heart"

A.) Author/Facts

1. This is where Pearl begins to show that she is very observant to what is going on around her. Hester begins to wonder if Pearl knows what the letter "A" really stands for. In order to find out, she askes Pearl if she knows what she (Hester) wears it. Pearl replies, the same reason the minister has his hand over his heart.

B.) Reader/Response

1. I think this is a very significant point in the book. It shows just how clever Pearl is, and that she almost knows everything just like Chillingsworth did. It aslo makes Pearl off to be more supernatual than she is human, which is somewhat scary.
